What do your back, hip, and shoulder have to do with pain relief? This classic lesson is done mostly lying on the side and uses small movements of the hip and shoulder, including circles, to improve function and provide pain relief, especially in the areas of the back and neck.
The movements may feel very unusual, in part because of the position you are doing them in. Because the movements are small, you are likely to notice things that are surprising. More than one person has told me that they were astonished at their inability to make the movements smoothly, at least at the beginning of the lesson. Don’t be discouraged – learning what you are doing is a good thing.
You have to know what you are doing before you can do what you want!
The Hip and Shoulder Circles lesson can increase back comfort and flexibility, and improve your gait. It’s a great lesson for beginners and reveals more each time it is done. Recorded during class on April 19, 2014.
